Northwestern University is seeking a temporary Event Coordinator for the Chicago campus.
Temporary Job Description:
An experienced event planner is temporarily needed to plan and execute the school’s June 19 convocation for 2,000+ guests at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The temporary employee will lead the event planning based on previous convocations, informed by an existing process document, and within an allocated budget. The Event Coordinator will report to the associate dean and collaborate/coordinate with the Student Services team. The Coordinator will be assisted by a part-time clerk leading up to the event, and a large team of volunteers the day of the event. The Coordinator will participate in the university-wide commencement meetings as department liaison, briefing the associate dean and identifying items needing action/coordination.
*Some weekends required
A bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Attention to detail, Coordination and Logistics: properly plan the details, anticipate potential problems that may arise, execute event, report on results (budget, attendance, issues).
Communication and interpersonal skills: Excellent listening, speaking, and writing skills to communicate with vendors, event attendees, supervisor and team/staff.
Team Management: carry out many tasks on own and delegate to team properly, making sure everyone has what they need to do their assigned task(s) successfully.
Managing to budget: keep costs within the allocated budget and create accurate reports.
Ability to problem solve and maintain composure.
MS Office suite 2013 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
